I introduced a new distraction into my life. Maybe I wasn’t thinking about it as a distraction at the time but after a few weeks, I see how glued I am to my screen. As someone involved in digital media, I am frequently glued to a screen, but this is not in the way I want to be. I try to notice things from a spiritual point of view, so when I think about the effects of distractions, I can’t help but sit in that thought until there’s something of an answer. So follow me down this rabbit hole.
It’s important to note that humanity evolved to experience life in a different form. There is nothing else on this planet quite like us (don’t ask me if that’s a good or bad thing) and I’d like to believe that our original purpose was meant to create balance in the ecosystem. That’s it. All we were meant to do as energetic beings was operate in harmony with the other energetic beings that we share this planet with. However, somewhere along the human timeline, someone made a choice to change our priorities, thinking their vision of what the world could be was better than what the world already designed. That choice changed the path of every generation to come after. (Whether that happened or not, I have a whole theory for this one.)
At some point, humans began to prioritize the belief that our desires for comfort are more important than (what could’ve been) appropriate balance in the universe. Maybe we didn’t think there would be any lasting repercussions. Maybe we confused the greater good with the right thing to do. Maybe we are just selfish. Maybe we are choosing to live that way.
Whatever the reason, we have designed a world that refuses to recognize the plot. Created problems and solutions to solve every problem but the one we started. Took every opportunity to defile this Earth, then run away into a digital world where our ideologies of reality conflate so much that some truly cannot decipher the difference between fact and fiction.
To acknowledge the existence to the way of the world we live in would mean acknowledging the reality of the horror we let fester for years on end. It’s so much easier to look away. Fill our mind with the thoughts of what we could be and manifest ourselves into a different life.
Before the world was full of distractions, it was apart of who we are to recognize how we fit into the system. Somewhere along the way, our minds became more focused on what we wanted individualistically, losing sight of what was needed collectively. When a thought like this gets implanted into a being like us, it sticks much deeper as it is catering to our ego. We know that we like things that feel good to us, so why not pay attention to only those?
Unfortunately, that’s not how balance works in this life. Every action has a reaction. Every positive has a negative. Training our brains to believe otherwise detaches our spirit from the natural system of balance it requires. This is where I believe we are currently stuck and have been for quite some time. We have been disciplined to see the distractions first. We let them into our lives with no question or concern of what it could be or why we do it in the first place. We get so hung up on instant gratification, we forget that good things take time.
Now as this new way of the world takes stride, many are becoming conscious to this; perhaps the way things are done is not the way things should be done. We have been blinded by the shiny keys dangled in front of us while our Earth and our collective spirit have been under attack.
As we return to a conscious state, it’s hard to ignore what is now revealed. It’s painful to think about; that we get so hung up on situations and people and items that do not provide us with any meaningful experiences. It doesn’t enhance our way of life in a long-term sense. We give these distractions so much power in our minds that, in turn, the universe reflects back it at us. We frequently receive opportunities to make a change, make choices that lead us to a different path. On an individual level, we know when we were are doing something that we aren’t supposed to. Our intuition is intended to guide us to make the choices that will create the best outcome for us. Even when the choice is hard to admit, we know when it is the right one in the long run.
When we ignore the truths that the universe needs us to hear, it will find a way to deliver it until we do.
The only reason why we don’t listen is because we trained our brains to look for the rainbow in a cloudy sky so when someone posts a billboard of color, we believe we found the sign of what we were looking for. We go through cycles of disappointment as we slowly realize each billboard is being planted there. Even when we say we’re going to stop looking at billboards, it’s hard to not see the millions around you who stop and stare. At some point, we must realize we aren’t looking at the sky. We should though. We might see a rainbow.
I don’t want to be distracted anymore which is easy to say, not always easy to do. I want to return to a place of balance where my spirit feels like it can operate naturally. If we could see the distress that our mind and body feels when we get out of sync, I believe we would think twice about the decisions we make. We can think and feel and learn and understand each other, that’s a beautiful thing to be able to do that we take for granted. I don’t want to live like that anymore, but I also struggle with breaking patterns as many other people do.
If you are in this position, please know you’re not alone. Growth is hard, but necessary. Unlearning is hard, but necessary. We can keep each other accountable in multiple ways.
This site is my personal way. If I document what I feel and think, maybe someone else will relate to it. I would hope that my thoughts can help others think through their own and remember what it means to be human; a living, breathing entity with a brain and a soul capable of so much more than we actually know. Our evolution doesn’t stop here. We can take back control of who we once were, tear down all the billboards of color that have deceived us, and start looking for what is real. If you needed a sign to make a change, let this be it. Turn your mind and soul off auto-pilot and use the gift of life to reconnect with the collective spirit. We may be cursed in our fate, but that doesn’t mean we stop trying to find the blessings.
If you made through this, thank you for reading. I hope you let love guide your life and remember, even when the world is dark, the light is always on.
